Criminal cases do not end after someone is convicted of a crime, especially for crime victims and their families. The Colorado Victim Rights Act (VRA) provides victims in Colorado with a large number of post-conviction rights, including those related to restitution, notification, and opportunities to be heard. In this session we will review the specific post-conviction rights that exist in Colorado and discuss the best way to support victims in accessing and enforcing those rights. We will also talk about what the criminal justice system looks like after sentencing, how to talk to victims about its complexity, and challenges that victims face in navigating the process.
